Jul. 24--One thousand fishing rods. Four hundred types of guns. Two hundred styles of bikes. One hundred choices of hiking boots and trail running shoes.
The inventory at the new Dick's Sporting Goods in North Raleigh, the largest Dick's store in the country, shows just how the retailer is trying to stand out among the competition.
And analysts say that broad choice mixed with some sound operational philosophies have helped create an industry giant that's poised to become even bigger.
