Aug. 26--Motorists don't need the calendar to track the unofficial end of the summer driving season. They know the Labor Day weekend is coming from the rising pump prices at gasoline stations here and nationwide. Some of the summer's highest gasoline prices are leading up to the nation's Labor Day driving binge.
This morning in Rochester, service stations typically were asking just less than $1.71 a gallon for regular unleaded gas at self-serve pumps. The American Automobile Association's survey figured the average price for regular at $1.72, with premium about 17.5 cents more; a month ago, the local average at regular pumps was about ...
