Aug. 28--KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--Electricity rates for most of TVA's 8 million customers will go up in October by the biggest amount in nearly two decades.
But power rates for the biggest 1,500 manufacturers in the Tennessee Valley are being cut this fall.
Tennessee Valley Authority directors on Wednesday unanimously agreed to boost the agency's residential and commercial rates by 7.4 percent while cutting some industrial rates by 2 percent. The rate change, the first by TVA since 1997, will cost the typical Chattanooga homeowner about $5 more per month, EPB officials said.
