Oct. 26--The Broadmoor hotel's announcement last month that it will build a 60,000-square-foot events center is making some Colorado Springs City Council members think twice about helping pay for a downtown convention center.

Others say a 2004 city budget proposing service cuts, and a recent survey in which residents strongly opposed spending tax money for a convention center, further complicate a decision on their financial support for the downtown venture.

Convention center backers might have to reduce the project's size or reconsider whether to go ahead with it if they don't get city support.
