Oct. 27--The Thai Gem and Jewellery Manufacturers Association teamed up with Thai laboratories to agree on how to describe orange sapphires, according to Chirakitti Tangkathach, the president of the association.
In a letter circulated to laboratories in Hong Kong and Japan, Mr Chirakitti said a consensus had been reached by the association and several laboratories on the new method of treatment of corundum.
They agreed that the orange sapphire, derived from heating pink ruby with beryllium (Be) -- a colourless substance derived from an ore called chrysoberyl -- should be described as a gemstone that has been enhanced ...
