Jul. 28--More than 2 million Michigan residents and business owners who went without electricity for two days in August 2003 might have wished they had a generator.
They could have avoided sweating through the summer heat by candlelight and barbecuing pounds and pounds of meat to avoid spoilage. Or they could have kept their business open.
Nearly a year after the largest power outage in North American history, demand for portable generators and other supplies such as batteries, extension cords and flashlights has remained steady for some local retailers with sales surging after major storms.
