Jul. 31--ORONO, Maine -- Aiming to give faculty a stronger voice in everything from academics and research to admissions and financial aid, a group of professors from all seven campuses in the University of Maine System on Friday unanimously approved a proposal to create a systemwide faculty senate.
Also, as part of the "shared governance" proposal, seven faculty members -- one from each campus -- would be appointed by the governor to serve as voting members on the UMS board of trustees. Seven professors now serve only in an advisory capacity to the 16-member board. ...
