With the onset of August, high summer is on the wane. Nights will begin to slowly lengthen and the skies will appear a little darker.
So take the opportunity of any clear evening this month and step outside for a little while around 10.30pm. Accustom your eyes to the darkness for a few minutes and then raise them to the heavens.
If you are lucky, you may just be able to make out an extensive ribbon of pale mist sweeping overhead. This is the Milky Way and you are witnessing one of the most magnificent features of a summer night sky. Once a common sight, ...
