CHICAGO _ When Greg Maddux first reported to the Cubs in 1986, he looked barely old enough to be out of diapers, much less inside a major-league dugout.
One early afternoon on the road, his teammates grabbed a security guard and told him the "batboy" was not allowed to sit in the dugout that many hours before game time.
The guard dutifully walked over to remove the baby-faced kid, as his teammates rolled on the ground in laughter.
"Sure, I remember `Doggie' when he first came up," says Billy Williams, then a Cubs coach. "He was a scrawny little kid who couldn't have weighed 160 pounds soaking wet."
