TWITCHERS heading down to one of Wirral's favoured spots for watching our feathered friends might be surprised when they see a rather different creature looming up at the other end of their binoculars.
The nature reserve at Gayton Sands will later this month be introducing water buffalo on to the marshes to help control the habitat for the rare birds which inhabit the area, or use it as a stopping off point on their travels. The massive creatures will help graze the marshes and make the area more suitable for the rare lap wings which nest there.
The reserve currently has around 11 pairs of lapwings, but hopes to increase ...
