HAVANA _ Forty years ago, Cuba was ground zero in a superpower standoff that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

But Friday in Havana, and throughout the weekend, former top American officials and their Cuban counterparts who played a key role in the 1962 Cuban missile crisis will revisit the events not as enemies, but more as historians.

A series of seminars and newly released documents are expected to provide new details into how the crisis evolved, helping participants as they try to glean lessons from the confrontation.
