Nov. 2--Unions spend a lot of time battling corporations. But sometimes a fight pits union against union.
A labor turf war with potentially big implications is under way in Michigan and several other states. It sets an insurgent group against a long-established union in a competition for the right to represent security guards at General Motors and Delphi Corp. factories.
The dispute raises tough questions not only about how unions grow, but about the state of the labor movement in general. At issue is whether turf fights like this one are a sign of healthy growth or grave illness.
