Article: U.S. Lawmakers Call for Delay of New Fishing Regulations.

Oct. 24--U.S. Sens. Edward Kennedy and Olympia Snowe yesterday called for delaying new fishing regulations for two years or longer to correct faulty scientific data.

Kennedy, D-Mass, and Snowe, D-Maine, are the latest in a chorus of voices calling for a halt to the federal regulations, after it was revealed a research vessel employed by the National Marine Fisheries Service used an improperly rigged survey net for 2 1/2 years.

The trawl survey is part of the stock assessment process that shows whether regulations are working to restore depleted fish stocks.
