Oct. 17--PLEASANTON, Calif.--Ways to help Tri-Valley agriculture survive and even thrive on the edges of urban development -- potentially involving public subsidies for water-- are explored in a report to be reviewed tonight.
The meeting of a task force, that has studied the issue over the past year, will begin at 7 p.m. at the CarrAmerica Center, 4400 Rosewood Drive.
Though a consultant's study explores strategies for enhanced dry land farming, the big-ticket money item is getting water to farmers for high-value irrigated crops that could help ensure long-term economic survival of agriculture.
