Oct. 20--While labor troubles at West Coast ports continue to snarl the flow of goods between Asia and the United States, some businesses and civic developers see an opportunity to revive interest in ports on the Gulf of Mexico and inland waterways for container shipping.
"We periodically revisit this, how we can get more containers on the (Mississippi River)," said Robert Wydra, executive director of the Tri-City Regional Port District in Granite City. "If enough companies say, 'We've got to have an alternative (to West Coast ports),' that's the key."
