Oct. 9--The owners of Market One, Virginia-Highland's newest grocery, never imagined they would have an employee arrested for stealing.
But late last month, a three-month employee was hauled off in a police cruiser for allegedly stealing $300 by voiding transactions, then pocketing the cash.
Co-owner Scott Vasatka and his partners, Andrew Hoppen and Rob Blain, now track all voids.
"That small grocery margin can be gone in a blink if you get lax on the organization," Vasatka said. "Thank God we're here every day. If this had gone on any longer, the only place we could look is at ourselves."
