Oct. 9--By intervening in the dockworkers' lockout on the West Coast on Tuesday, President Bush created a strange parallel universe in which no one seems to fit in the roles they are playing.
The dockworkers were locked out of the ports. They had said they wanted to go back to work. But now that they face a likely court order to return to work, they don't like it.
The port owners presumably wanted a shutdown. After all, they're the ones who locked the gates on 29 West Coast harbors that process $300 billion worth of goods each year.
But they're glad as can be that President Bush called off their own lockout. "I ...
