Oct. 14--Frances Hayashi buys organic pineapple and raspberries when they look fresher than their conventionally grown cousins.
Sally Hancock sticks with the regular tomatoes. But she'll buy organic if they go on sale.
Both Denver women said they're inclined to buy more organic foods -- which lack hormones, chemical pesticides and fertilizers -- under a new U.S. Department of Agriculture standard.
The USDA certification goes into effect Oct. 21. It does away with a homegrown system of certifying organic farms that varies from one state to another, and has left some consumers with a bad taste in their mouths.
