A Thing of Beauty
is a Joy Forever
Charlotte Hewell, lovely in her leotard, a classic blond with solemn blue eyes, did not smile much during the four days of Special Olympics gymnastics competition. She was all business, deadly serious, putting all of her energies into performance. One of 17 finalists in Level III All Around Artistic Competition, this 14-year-old from a tiny Texas town wanted desperately to win. Once more she would perform her floor exercise routine to the music Mood-I-Go, do two vaults, show strength and coordination on the uneven bars, and challenge gravity in a balance beam spectacular.
