Jul. 29--The day Al Burnett arrived in Orlando in the early 1960s, he asked a prominent lawyer for advice on starting a local business. By the time he left the lawyer's office, he had spent $1 and purchased a struggling Mercedes-Benz dealership.
"I don't know why he did it," Burnett, 76, said Wednesday. "He thought I was a nice guy. I was lucky enough to have Mercedes become a popular car."
Forty years later, Burnett hopes to parlay that $1 deal into a new medical school at the University of Central Florida.
