Aug. 2--While this week's opening of the new Jordan Creek Town Center puts the spotlight on a suburban neighbor, downtown Des Moines is seeing a construction boom of its own.
Among the projects in the works are a $217 million arena and convention center; a $62 million Science Center that includes a 220-seat IMAX theater; a new public library; and a higher education center that will be shared by seven institutions.
