THE HIVES "Tyrannosaurus Hives" (Interscope, 3 { stars)
When we last saw the Hives, it was in photos announcing that the Swedish quintet with the mod black-and-white sartorial scheme had signed a recording contract worth an estimated $10 million. The band had scored a minor U.S. hit with its 2000 second album, "Veni Vidi Vicious," and was hailed as the most likely to succeed in all of then-booming garage rock.
Some snickered about this lavish sum, because though "Veni" had one great single _ "Hate To Say I Told You So" _ it was otherwise undistinguished, stuck in the super-fast tempo of so much latter-day rock. "Tyrannosaurus Hives," which ...
