Oct. 1--About 500 jobs at Carpenter Technology Corp. -- about 350 in Berks County -- are being eliminated as the maker of specialty alloys deals with difficult market conditions.
And in another effort at reducing costs, Carpenter said Monday that it would lower its quarterly common-stock dividend to 81/4 cents per share from 33 cents per share.
Carpenter of Wyomissing said it will eliminate the jobs -- representing 10 percent of its global work force -- through job cuts, layoffs and early retirement incentives.
