Introduction
A 2001 UK survey of the public found climate change came eighth out of a list of 20 current local, regional and global environmental concerns (National Survey of Public Attitudes to Quality of Life; DEFRA 2002). When asked what environmental concern will be most worrying in 20 years' time, however, climate change came second only to traffic (congestion, fumes and noise). There are two interesting dimensions to this finding.
