Pitchers who throw complete-game shutouts usually keep the baseball used for the final out. Not Twins righthander Carlos Silva, based on his actions following Tuesday's 10-0 trouncing of the Anaheim Angels.
Silva's first career shutout was somewhat tainted, as he helped end the game by racing to first base and catching a throw from Jason Bartlett to convert a double play. Soon, that baseball took flight, as he flung it into the upper deck behind the Twins dugout.
"I was thinking that he would want to keep that ball," catcher Henry Blanco said. "I guess he wasn't thinking ...
