Sep. 16--One moment, people were enjoying a Mardi Gras-style party on a deck at a Jersey Shore rental on a Saturday night in July. The next moment, they were sprawled on the ground amid broken lumber, records and cups.
Thirty-three people were injured when the 50-year-old wooden deck in Point Pleasant Beach collapsed into a pile of rubble. Most were dumped 12 feet to the ground, joining others on a cement patio below. Most injuries were minor, but the borough was galvanized by the July 6 accident.
