Aug. 29--The state DFL Party has asked the Internal Revenue Service to shoot down the tax-exempt status of an organization that has been flying a banner over the State Fair criticizing U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone.
Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Mike Erlandson on Wednesday filed a complaint asking the IRS to strip the group Americans for Job Security of its status as a trade association, which allows it to conceal its contributors and avoid paying taxes.
Instead, Erlandson said, the group should be required to operate as a "political organization" that must disclose its donors to the public.
