Sep. 5--As lead prosecutor in Cumberland County and a strong advocate for victims rights, District Attorney Stephanie Anderson is focused on issues of domestic violence. Her office includes a domestic violence unit.
But only after Anderson's office began drafting a formal domestic violence policy did she learn that three of her 47 employees had been victims of domestic violence. Behind her story, related to business leaders Wednesday at the monthly breakfast organized by the Portland Chamber of Commerce, were some sobering statistics, and a message: Domestic violence does harm to businesses, as well as families.
