The humble cable box, for years a mere channel-flipper, is in for a multimedia makeover: Beefed-up boxes of the future could let you play video games online, share digital photos with friends, and maybe do other things people in the business haven't even imagined yet.
"We've talked to all types of content providers about all types of products, whether it's being able to click from video to more information about what's on, to being able to `chat' while you're watching television," said Mark Hess, Comcast Corp.'s vice president of digital television.
