Ahmed bin Salman, 43, the ebullient and sometimes controversial Saudi Arabian prince who campaigned this year's Kentucky Derby winner, War Emblem, and 2001 Horse of the Year, Point Given, died in his sleep Monday of an apparent heart attack in Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital.
The prince's death came three days short of the one-year anniversary of his brother Fahd's death of a heart attack at age 46.
Prince Ahmed was a nephew of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd and the son-in-law of Prince Khalid Abdulla, also a prominent owner of thoroughbreds.
