DETROIT _ Gil de Ferran is a grand breakfast companion. He can talk auto racing, eat a plate of eggs over easy with bacon and hash browns, check the newspaper and still make your day.
Early Thursday morning in Plymouth, a smartly dressed de Ferran sat down for an interview on a hotel patio, proving you can be polite, funny and a top professional athlete at the same time. Even the waitress who served us seemed impressed, and she had no idea who he was.
