Partnership for Essential Nutrition, a new coalition comprised of non-profit consumer, nutrition and public health organizations, issued a warning that low-carb diets are unlikely to lead to sustained long term weight loss and they can increase the risk for a number of life-threatening medical conditions.
The coalition's review of scientific literature concludes that losing weight on extreme low-carb diets can lead to such serious health problems as kidney stress, liver disorders and gout.
