2004 AUG 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Teen births have fallen 48% in West Virginia since 1985, an improvement that health officials attribute to abstinence programs and other prevention efforts.
The number of babies born to teen mothers fell from 1,419 in 1985 to 735 in 2002, a record low, according to the latest West Virginia Vital Statistics released by the Department of Health and Human Resources.
The data, which is the latest available, is based on births to girls ages 15 to 17.
Nationally, 23 of every 1,000 girls ages 15 to 17 gave birth in 2002, compared to about 21 in West Virginia, according to a report by the Federal Interagency ...
