Article: Genentech/Serono's Raptiva shows long-term benefits in treating plaque psoriasis.(health care)

Promising preliminary 30-month findings from an open-label study evaluating the safety and efficacy of long-term continuous treatment with Genentech/Serono's Raptiva (efalizumab) have been presented at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting in New York.

In the study, 339 patients received Raptiva weekly for an initial 12 weeks and, after this period, those with a 50% or greater improvement on the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI 50) or a static Physician's Global Assessment response of mild or better were eligible to continue on a once-weekly maintenance dose of 1mg/kg of the drug for 12-week durations, starting at week 13.
