ELMONT, N.Y. _ Jockey Victor Espinoza describes his first few months in the United States back in 1992 as difficult.
"Very difficult," he said.
Just 20 years old, fresh out of his native Mexico and just a few years removed from driving a bus, Espinoza was finding things difficult in northern California trying to hustle mounts at Golden Gate Fields.
