Aug. 5--The way to improve nursing homes, the Bush administration believes, is to post lots of information about them on the Internet so that everyone can see how good or bad the homes are.
The idea, says one senior official, is to help consumers make informed choices -- and to shame nursing homes into improving because they know the world is watching.
Administration critics acknowledge that people benefit by having more information. But they also say it's foolhardy to think that a big load of helpful data is all it will take to fix the nation's nursing homes.
