Aug. 6--CNN bosses worried last year as they prepared to mutate Headline News into the informational equivalent of Times Square.
Their plans called for a barrage of graphics, sports scores, video boxes, pun-filled headlines, stock updates and chatty anchors -- all slung at the screen simultaneously.
Would it be too much for viewers?
They went forward anyway, after CNN's senior executives held a meeting and confronted the network's miserable ratings. "You can't fall off the floor," one executive blurted.
