Aug. 6--Centene Corp., a Medicaid HMO based in Clayton, is buying 80 percent of a Medicaid HMO owned by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
The university will maintain a 20 percent ownership in the Newark-based plan.
Centene said it will manage the University Health Plan and book all its revenues and its prorated share of plan earnings. James Archibald, the university's senior vice president for finance and administration, will be chairman of the board of the New Jersey plan. Alexander H. McLean will continue as president and chief executive of the plan but will become a Centene employee.
