Jul. 31--NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--Stroll along the businesses on East Coast Highway with Donald Glasco and he'll point out new flowerbeds, people sipping lattes on new coffee-shop patios, and storefronts with fresh coats of paint.
"It's contagious -- it's spreading -- and before you know it, everyone around here will catch it," said Glasco, chairman of the Business Improvement District here.
Some merchants are giving the downtown a makeover -- slowly but surely.
