San Antonio Hotel Bookings Slip 20 Percent.

Jul. 31--Despite the tourism industry rebounding faster in San Antonio than in most other major cities, local convention officials are still concerned about trying to attract more meetings next year while operating on a smaller budget.

The number of room-nights booked for 2003 -- an important indicator of the tourism industry's health -- has dropped about 20 percent compared to this year.

Convention & Visitors Bureau officials hope to make up that shortfall by attracting more leisure travelers.

Officials had been aggressively marketing the expanded Convention Center to business travelers and convention planners.
