Aug. 3--Wal-Mart is buying land for a new store in Beaumont that could open in 2004.
The world's largest retailer has reached an agreement with Loma Linda University for 22 acres south of Interstate 10 and will enter escrow in a few days, said Pete Kanelos, community affairs manager for Wal-Mart in California.
"We intend to go full bore and bring a Wal-Mart into Beaumont to serve the needs of our customers," Kanelos said.
Loma Linda University doesn't comment on pending business deals, said Richard Weismeyer, its director of university relations.
