Jul. 20--A new round of telecommunications bankruptcies, including a reported imminent Chapter 11 filing by WorldCom Inc., could spark renewed interest by suitors in bankrupt Williams Communications Group Inc., analysts and industry observers say.
"My sense is that we're going to see a lot of action in consolidation of the industry," said Alex Mou, who follows telecommunications for Hotovec, Pomeranz & Co. in San Francisco. "In this period of the cycle, smart operators will focus on acquiring end customers rather than consolidating network capacity."
