Jul. 22--A U.S. District Court in Los Angeles July 3 awarded $2 million in damages to the Ontario manufacturer of the popular Maglite flashlight, ruling that a competitor stole trade secrets to produce and sell a rival line of products.
Mag Instrument Inc. filed suit in 2000 in Central U.S. District Court in Los Angeles against the owners of Bison Sportslights in Englewood, Colo., accusing them of stealing trade secrets and using them to market and produce their own line of flashlights. The owners of Bison are former employees of Mag Instrument.
