Jul. 15--Some might call it the usual end of season South Beach restaurant shakedown. It's July and this year, more than in other years, several restaurants won't be around come fall.
Gone, it seems, is Bambu, with its pan-Asian menu, minimalist decor and star partner, Cameron Diaz. The "closed for renovations" sign has been removed from the window. Bambu's telephone goes unanswered.
Gone is Liaison, with its New Orleans-infused menu and a chef who was serious about food.
The loungey Red Square has been shuttered. Even the 7-year-old Astor Place, which seemed destined to become an institution, closed.
