Aug. 7--FORT WORTH, Texas -- It may not be as established a custom as the day-after-Thanksgiving shopping spree, but for many Texas consumers, splurging during the state's annual sales-tax holiday has become a tradition in its own right.
Fort Worth resident Jennifer Carr made her usual back-to-school trek to the mall at the start of this year's tax-free shopping weekend. On Friday morning, she bought her teen-age son a bag full of clothes, including shirts marked down to $6.99 each, from the Foley's at Ridgmar.
