Jul. 2--A second federal judge assigned to the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization of Williams Communications Group Inc. has recused himself from the case, according to documents filed Monday in United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
The withdrawal of Chief Judge Stuart M. Bernstein surprised lawyers representing Williams Communications, shareholders and unsecured creditors, who nonetheless expressed confidence in Bernstein's successor, Judge Burton R. Lifland.
