Jul. 3--Garden Grove City leaders Tuesday night held true to a promise to leave alone 470 houses and two mobile-home parks near Harbor Boulevard and figure out other ways to bring tourist dollars into the city.

The City Council voted unanimously to adopt a redevelopment plan that would allow the city to eventually take 47 acres, far less than the 264 acres originally proposed.

"I can sleep better at night now knowing that my home isn't going to be taken away," said Bob Walker, among more than 100 residents attending.

Councilman Mark Leyes expressed regret that the plan dragged on for 18 months.
