Jun. 23--Gardening, America's No. 1 leisure activity, continues to blossom.
While many industries have shrunk in the current economic slowdown, the garden center business is showing steady growth. Industry estimates suggest that the average annual household spending for gardening has grown about 9 percent annually for the last five years.
Fact is, the $88 million gardening business has been steadily growing for decades, industry observers say. And it's not likely to stop soon.
