Jun. 27--LAKELAND, Fla.--Farmers and ranchers in Polk County -- and Florida -- brought in slightly more cash for their goods in 2000, but less of that money landed in their wallets.
Total cash receipts from the sale of crops and livestock in Polk reached nearly $323.1 million, a 0.7 percent increase from almost $320.8 million in 1999, according to a report released recently by the Bureau of Economic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
But net income from those sales fell to almost $120.4 million in 2000, down 8.7 percent from net income of $131.9 million the previous year, the report shows.
