Jun. 18--FALL RIVER, Mass.--When Martha Stewart goes head-to-head with that little yellow smiley face, consumers in this predominately blue-collar town are the real winners.

Clothes, curtains and cosmetics are all up for comparison since Wal-Mart made the unusual move last month of opening a store at New Harbour Mall. An unusual move because Wal-Mart shares the mall with its number-one rival, Kmart.

Conventional logic dictates that Wal-Mart, with its acres of low-priced Cheez Doodles, walking shoes and fishing rods, could be the undoing of Kmart, which is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. But some retail experts suggest ...
